NASA held a "Day of Remembrance"
In January of each year, NASA conducts "Memorial Day" in honor of the fallen heroes «Apollo 1», «Challenger» and «Columbia», and all those who gave their lives in the struggle for space exploration. Wreath-laying ceremony in the "Memorial Day" was held at Arlington National Cemetery with the participation of NASA Administrator Charles Bolden (Charles Bolden).
"Apollo 1" The crew, from left to right: Edward White (Edward Higgins White), Virgil Grissom (Virgil Ivan Grissom), Roger B. Chaffee (Roger B. Chaffee). Were killed in a fire - January 27, 1967.
"Challenger" The crew, first row, from left to right: Michael Smith, Francis Scobee, Ronald McNair; Second row, from left to right: Ellison Onizuka, Christa McAuliffe, Gregory Jarvis, Judith Resnick. All were killed in the explosion of the shuttle, the tragedy occurred January 28, 1986.
"Columbia" crew were: commander Rick Husband, Pilot William McCool, flight engineer Michael Anderson, research specialists Laurel Clark, David Brown, Kalpana Chawla and the first Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon. Died during landing February 1, 2003.
