Understanding is one of the most important social needs of a person, it gives us a sense of closeness, acceptance and support. But why is it so hard to find "common language"? How can we learn to communicate deeply when we can not only share information, but also truly feel the other?

  • Sincerity. Trust is born from the honest expression of your thoughts and feelings. To adjust an image to the expectations of another means to build communication on an illusion that sooner or later will burst.

Major obstacles to deep communication
Even when we are aware of the importance of empathy and active listening, real communication often goes wrong. There are some typical “barriers”:

  • Prejudice and stereotypes. We quickly label people based on their social status, appearance, background. As a result, we do not see the personality behind superficial characteristics.
  • Defensive position. When a person is afraid of being judged or does not want to appear vulnerable, he or she can “close” the dialogue, turning it into a formality.
  • “Control” instead of dialogue. Sometimes we try not to understand the interlocutor, but to “convince” him or impose our opinion. It kills the space for trust.
  • "Autopilot.". We nod mechanically without getting to the point, or we jump to our thoughts at the first opportunity. This format of conversation often leads to a mutual feeling of inattention.
To reduce the impact of such obstacles, it is important to develop awareness in communication – to track your emotions, motivations, willingness to dialogue and the ability to give space to the thoughts of another person.




Techniques for the Development of Deep Communication
There are specific ways to take the conversation to a new level:

  • "Open questions". Ask questions that require a detailed answer (“Why do you think this happened?”, “What is most important to you here?”). This encourages the interlocutor to more fully express their thoughts.
  • "Reflection of feelings". Periodically paraphrase what the interlocutor said, especially emotional moments (“You seem disappointed that you were not supported”). This technique shows attention and helps to clarify the nuances.
  • Installation for "win-win". It is important to recognize the value of the other’s views. Even in an argument, try to find common interests rather than looking at the situation as “win or lose.”
  • Pauses and silence. Do not be afraid to be silent for a few seconds, giving the interlocutor time to reflect on what was said and continue the topic in depth. Too quick a reaction can cut off important thoughts.

Deep communication as a resource for life
