What Every Woman Should Do on Christmas Eve January 6th

Christmas is the brightest family holiday, which gives a feeling of real magic. And if someone failed to find a festive mood in the New Year, then on the eve of Christmas he has every chance to improve. The main thing is to follow the traditions that our ancestors have honored for centuries in order to properly spend Christmas Eve.

Christmas Eve The name "Eveve Eve" comes from the word "sochivo" - sweet rice, barley or millet porridge, in which honey, candy, nuts, poppy, raisins are added. This dish is also called kutya or koliva.

It is on Christmas Eve that the Philippian fast ends. Many believe that on this day you can not eat anything before the appearance of the first star in the sky. But that's not entirely true.

No wonder in prayers you can find the expression “fasting pleasant fasting”. This is because fasting is not a punishment, but a way of purification. And if the rules of fasting are extremely strict for monks, then there are exemptions for children, the elderly, pregnant women or sick people.

However, we must not forget that on Christmas Eve a strict fast continues, so the tradition of keeping 12 dishes on the table is fiction. But the Church's rules encourage all dishes on the table to be lean.

Everyone at the table should try every dish. It is unacceptable to have an intact plate on the table. Although it is impossible to overeat, because 40 days of fasting were not just to sit down and eat. Only a small break is allowed.

Do not forget that the main events of Christmas Eve, of course, take place in the temple. On January 6, on Christmas Eve in the morning, the Liturgy is celebrated in all churches, at which the priest carries out a candle symbolizing the Star of Bethlehem. After that, those who attended the morning service can start a meal. Those who are unable to attend the Liturgy should wait until the first star.

Interestingly, before the Christmas vespers began in the afternoon, passed to the Liturgy of Basil the Great and ended already in the dark, when the stars appeared in the sky. That is, "before the first star" actually meant "before the end of the Liturgy." But now the solemn Vespers is celebrated on the morning of the 6th, which leads some astray.

At 23:00 night service begins in all churches of Russia. And if you decide to spend the night before Christmas in church, make sure that you do not want to sleep so much. To do this, you can sleep well the day before or drink strong coffee.

On Christmas Eve, it is customary to confess to meet the Born Christ clean and renewed. But it is better to do it the day before, or at least to agree in advance on the time of confession. Otherwise, you can hold the entire festive service in line.

Christmas Eve is celebrated modestly. It has long been a family holiday. In advance, the house is thoroughly cleaned, throwing away garbage. Traditionally, the tree is decorated with tangerines or apples.

The evergreen spruce symbolizes eternity, and the fruits on it remind of the tree of paradise in the garden of Eden. A bundle of hay is placed on the table, which is a symbol of the manger in which Christ was born.

The evening meal begins with a prayer in which they glorify Christ. First of all, it is supposed to taste kutya, and then you can start with the rest of the dishes.

After dinner, food should not be removed from the table until January 7. It is believed that on this day the souls of dead relatives descend from heaven to look at their descendants. Therefore, food and cutlery on the tables are left as a sign of cordiality and respect for ancestors.

Giving gifts at Christmas has a long tradition and goes back to the gifts that the Magi brought to the baby Christ. Of course, now few people give gold, incense and myrrh. The main meaning of Christmas gifts is symbolism, spirituality and pleasant emotions.

During the Christmas holidays, mercy should not be forgotten. There are many people around who need help and support. Those who are able to afford it, on this day make donations and help those in need.

Good gifts for loved ones are sweets, candles, figures of angels, Jesus and Mary, icons and good books. But remember that what matters is not so much gifts as attention. May Christmas 2022 be good and happy!
