Editorial "Site" tells everything Lazarus Saturday in 2021. When and why this holiday is so important.
On what date does the Lazarev Sabbath the Orthodox Church celebrate this holiday on the eve of the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem, or Palm Resurrection. The date of the holiday depends on when Easter falls. And in 2021, Lazarev Saturday is celebrated on April 24. This day is associated with the event described in the Gospel of John.
Lazarus was a friend of Jesus and the Savior often visited his home. When Lazarus fell ill, his sisters Martha and Mary reported it to Jesus. At that time, however, the information was not spread quickly. By the time Jesus learned of his friend’s illness, Lazarus had died.
On his way to Lazarus’ house, Jesus knew that a friend had gone to another world. However, he told his disciples a phrase they understood only after the miracle. Jesus said, “To the glory of God, that you may believe.” The Savior immediately went to the place where Lazarus was buried, on the way there he wept for the departed friend.
When Christ came to the cave, he asked that the stone be removed from it. He was told that a long time had passed, but Jesus insisted. Without entering it, he began to pray to the Lord, and then called Lazarus out. Lazarus rose and came out of the tomb alive. The resurrection of Lazarus is one of the greatest miracles Jesus performed on earth.
We celebrate this holiday by celebrating Jesus’ miracle and remembering that our lives are in God’s hands. This is the main importance and significance of the holiday.
There are many traditions, signs and prohibitions associated with Lazarus Saturday. In addition, there is something that every woman should do on this day to find happiness and peace in her heart.
First of all, a woman on this day should visit the church and pray. It is believed that on this day you need to ask for healing from ailments. Prayers on this day will be heard and fulfilled. The main thing is to forgive from the heart.
On this day, it is also customary to break the branches of the willow, preparing for the Palm Resurrection. It is possible to consecrate the twigs at the evening service. You also need to remember that Lent continues, which means that the dishes on the table should be lean. However, this evening there is a slight relaxation, you can eat some vegetable oil and fish caviar.
Housewives on this day made to bake pancakes, cook porridge, cook vegetable salads and make lean pastries. In Greece on a festive Saturday bake a special liver called infirmaries.
On this day, as in all Orthodox holidays, you can not engage in heavy physical work, cleaning, washing. However, sitting on the couch in front of the TV is also not worth it. Be sure to go to the festive service in the temple, break the branches for tomorrow and prepare dinner for the whole family.
Also on this day you should not work in the garden, one carve out a minute and sow peas. It is difficult to explain, but it is believed that peas sown on this day will give a double harvest. That's the only thing we can do today.
Despite the relaxation, not everything can be eaten on this day. My grandmother always said that on this Saturday you can not cook pumpkin dishes. That's it, you can fish, and the pumpkin is better to save for another day.
You can sit at the table with the whole family in the evening, have dinner, but no fun and noisy celebrations are allowed. It is a quiet and peaceful family holiday.

- The behavior of snakes and other creepers determined whether spring had already come. If they actively leave their burrows, then the cold finally receded and a real spring will soon begin.
- If you read the prayer “Our Father”, holding a palm branch in your hand, then there will be no difficulties and troubles in the family all year round.
