Tasks for those who did not skip mathematics in school

Students who work with numbers are not good at thinking about why mathematics is needed in general and why so much attention is always paid to the study of this subject. And it is quite strange that such questions arise in our time, which can safely be called the time of mathematics.

For modern man, mathematics becomes not an abstract science, but a necessary tool in everyday life. After all, any activity is always built on calculations, where, thanks to competent operation with numbers, you can always make the best choice. And it's not just about money.

“Mathematics must then be taught, that it puts the mind in order,” said Mikhail Lomonosov.

And indeed, this science serves as a kind of simulator that keeps the brain in tone. Therefore, it is useful even for an adult to open a textbook to solve problems. Let's do a couple of things today.

  1. As a first task, we offer a rather long and confusing example. Only those who have conscientiously attended math classes (as well as diligently performed homework) will be able to cope here without much trouble. Can we find the right answer?

  2. If it turned out to cope with the calculations in the first task, then now we propose simply to show ingenuity and understand what mathematical regularity is hidden here. If you guess, then the desired number will not be difficult to find.

  3. And at the end of our today’s so diverse warm-up, we offer a simple task, all the conditions of which are indicated in the picture. Calculate what numbers are hidden behind the images of bottles of glasses to understand what number should be in place of the question mark.

Task tips
  1. First we perform operations in brackets, and then the remaining operations in the order of writing (left to right). At the same time, “multiply by 8” and “divide by 2” can be simplified by simply multiplying by 4. Therefore, our example will take the following form: 12 / 3 * 8 * 4 = 4 * 8 * 4 = 128.
  2. What pattern is hidden here? After analyzing the series, amateurs of mathematics will find that each previous number should be added one and multiply the resulting by 3. Indeed (3 + 1) * 3 = 12, and (12 + 1) * 3 = 39. In this case, to find the answer you need (120 + 1) * 3 = 363.
  3. You can find that behind a bottle of wine there is 9/3 = 3. A bottle of champagne is 8-3 = 5. Then the glass with the drink will be (7 – 3) / 2 = 2. So the last example would look like this: 3 + (2 + 2) * 5 = 3 + 4 * 5 = 3 + 20 = 23.

Did you manage to complete every task? Or did you have to turn to clues? Maybe we made a mistake somewhere? Don’t forget to share your thoughts on these tasks. Also tell me if you think math is the most important subject to study in school.
