The prisoners waste to the energy needs of the prisons of Rwanda

In most countries, prisons are structures that largely support themselves due to the almost free labor of prisoners. But the prisoners of correctional institutions in Rwanda will produce not only industrial products but also electricity.

In 1994, the year the name "Rwanda" has become synonymous with savagery and primitive barbarism. Then during the genocide in the African country killed about a million people. Now Rwanda is one of the few Islands of stability on the African Continent, one of the fastest growing countries in the world. No stranger to the authorities of that state and the concept of "biofuel". In it, they began to turn the waste of prisoners in the prisons of criminals.

Only in Rwanda now operates 14 correctional institutions, which are serving sentences of about 50 thousand people. And here they all took part in an innovative experiment conducted by the authorities of the country. This experiment is the desire to save a few million dollars a year by switching to biofuel in providing prisons with electricity.

Moreover, this biofuel is made from fecal wastes prisoners sitting in the prisons. However, in addition to it is dry cow dung and wood is the most ancient means for campfires, known to Mankind since prehistoric times. So anything new in this initiative there is.

However, experience has shown loyalty to the chosen government of Rwanda to save the path. In the first prison, where they began the programme (Nsinda, 8 thousand prisoners), was able to save up to 85 percent of the resources needed for energy production. All across the country, in all fourteen such institutions, it is planned to achieve the level of savings of 75 per cent. The scale of Rwanda, it is expected that you will be able to save approximately 1.7 million dollars annually, which is very important for this very poor African States.
