800,000 tons of garbage for Sweden

The fact that different countries import all kinds of goods is normal. Even in the most developed countries, there is no complete cycle of production of everything in the world. In this regard, everyone was surprised by Sweden. She said that she will annually import from neighboring countries ... 800,000 tons of garbage!

In different parts of the world, society has come to realize the idea that garbage can not be thrown away, but used for useful purposes, for example, to make compost out of it or illuminate the streets with it. This has also happened in Sweden, which has a long-standing recycling program. This country is missing its garbage. So the government decided to ask for help from its neighbors.

In Sweden, only about 5 percent of solid waste is sent to landfills (compared to 67 percent in the United States), with the rest being recycled, mostly incinerated for heat. At the same time, the process described has become so popular that the country began to lack its own garbage for this purpose.

From now on, Sweden plans to import about 800,000 tons of garbage annually. So far, most of it will come from Norway, which receives two benefits and gets rid of landfill waste and makes money from it.

But in the future, Sweden plans to sign similar agreements with other European countries - Denmark, Italy, Bulgaria, Romania, the Baltic States. Already, about 20 percent of Sweden’s heat (water, heating) comes from a solid waste disposal program. In the future, this figure is planned to increase significantly.

Moreover, the cunning Swedes agreed that the waste left after incineration will be sent back to Norway and other countries from where they brought it. Some make money from oil, some from financial investments, some from high-tech industries, and Sweden has made it possible for other countries to get money for garbage! And the benefit of this is the Scandinavian country and its partners!
