Oldenburg and van Bruggen: simplicity monumental
One of the most interesting features that distinguish the arts from the ordinary mortals, has always been the ability to open new possibilities in simple materials, to look at familiar things under a new and strange angle and even to turn them upside the head. But how to return with normal people living the artist's view?
American sculptor of Swedish-born Claes Oldenburg (Claes Oldenburg) and his wife and author Coosje van Bruggen (Coosje van Bruggen) has created a great creative Duo, which reveals a variety of things from a completely different side. Using a vast number of materials and approaches, interesting camera angles, perspective distortion, and most importantly — the objects increase, they give new life to the most ordinary things in normal life we wouldn't look at twice.
One of the most famous of their works, a huge eraser, which is created from stainless steel, Plexiglas and put on display in the sculpture garden of the National gallery of art (Washington, USA). Huge entertaining size sculpture gives you the opportunity to consider the subtle curves of the contour and the crest of the pile.
The work of Oldenburg and van Bruggen is highly admired by tourists who do not miss the opportunity to be photographed in front of a huge flashlight or frame of the umbrella. Some critics, however, argue that Oldenburg and van Bruggen choose objects for his work in favor of the modern culture of consumption.
