The wonder of the world: Stone forest in China

National Park, Shilin (Shilin), China has an area of 500 square kilometers and is divided into 7 incredibly beautiful pieces.
Stone forest, or Shilin, is located in Yunnan province, approximately 150 km from Kunming. High cliffs, must grow out of the ground in the form of stalagmites, many have the appearance of petrified trees thereby creating the illusion of a forest made of stone.



In 2006 two parts of the Park, the Stone forest and Village Nigu Suogeyi brought in the world heritage list of UNESCO.

About this place many legends, which convey the local people from generation to generation.





Annually, on the 25th day of the 6th lunar month is the famous festival of torches, which attracts thousands of tourists. The festival features folk dances and wrestling competitions.
An old local saying says: "If you have visited Kunming, and saw the Stone forest, you're wasting time". Actually, the stone forest is one of the most important attractions of Yunnan province.



Among the thousands of stones, you can feel like in some magical land. Here you can turn on the imagination to imagine anything — the ancient fortress, birds, animals, flowers, trees, people.
In the little stone forest there are many huge beautiful meadows, thickets of bamboo, trees and mountain flowers. Here is also located the famous stone flowers – “Towers that hold the Sky” and “Singing stones”.
