American scientists have created a robot the size of a fly. RoboBee flying thanks to an incredibly thin wings that beat 120 times per second.
Scientists from the Harvard school of engineering and applied Sciences robot called the RoboBee, which weighs 1 gram and approximately the same size as a penny. Its body is constructed from carbon fibre, and the wings of ultra-thin ceramic substance. The wings are powered by artificial muscles made of layers of piezoelectric material.
RoboBee was developed more than ten years.
"That's what I was trying to do for literally the last 12 years," said Robert wood, principal investigator of the project.
"We had to start everything from scratch. We have finished one task to the next, and then there are new five challenges. It was a driving target," he said.
The creators say that the robot RoboBee can be used in rescue and recovery. If RoboBee can be equipped with a camera, he would be extremely effective surveillance device.
