Are the light-powered bacteria
Since then, as Edison in 1880 was septentrional the light bulb, the technology has come a long way. Students from the University of Wisconsin-Madison want to contribute to "light" problem and started production of Biobulb — a light bulb, is able to glows in the dark, using bacteria.
In fact, we will focus on the creation of a miniature "ecosystem in a jar", since the lamp serves as a kind of aquarium for a large number of microorganisms, luminous bacteria, natural light which is necessary for the life.
In Biobulb uses a strain OF E. coli, it was created for the introduction of plasmid genes responsible for bioluminescence. The project can be regarded as an experiment with different proteins, finding ways to maximize the amount of light the bacteria emit. Scientists plan to find a way to avoid mutations and genetic code, which is responsible for different colors of light. It is also planned to start experiment with different triggers to "persuade" the bacteria to work on the signal.
