Unusual facts about pearls

A natural pearl is one that formed without any human intervention. Natural pearls are very rare, they are difficult to extract from the bottom of the ocean, so man invented the technique of culturing salt and freshwater pearls.



History remembers many large pearls. However none of them have reached our days: the pearls are not stored more than 150-200 years. Most of the old pearl, whose story of the famous "Peregrina" owned by Elizabeth Taylor.

Today, cultured pearls are grown and harvested in many parts of the world including the fresh waters of the Tennessee river. However, the majority of cultured pearls come from Japan, China and South Pacific. Perfectly round pearls are the most rare and valuable.

Imitation pearls can be of different colors: gold, yellow, champagne, pink, peach, lavender, gray and black. Pearls require special care, they are sensitive to chemicals and acids. A few tips on caring for pearls: to clean the pearl to put it in a linen bag, there is a little bit of salt and put it in clean water. After some time the salt will dissolve and you can get pearls. The thread in the necklace should be changed at least once a year. Too bright light deprives the surface of the pearl luster, so to keep the pearls you need in a dark place.
