An ambitious plan of Sydney to tackle the problem of household waste

This requires the construction of advanced treatment facilities and a plant for waste recycling. As fuel is used more than 90% of the waste destined for disposal.

Currently, the city recycles 68% of MSW, and the rest goes to landfill. The cost of dumping trash at the landfill are constantly increasing. In addition, landfilling is a source of methane – a greenhouse gas 25 times more dangerous impact on the climate than carbon dioxide. Instead of landfilling, not suitable for recycling of MSW will be converted into a gas using gasification processes. Waste is brought to a state of natural gases. Then they are combusted as fuel for energy production and sent for three generation installation in the city. They will provide electricity, heating and cooling for city buildings, reports Chris Derksema, Manager of urban sustainability.
