China aims to increase solar capacity to 70 GW by 2017
The Chinese government has announced plans to triple installed solar capacity to 70 GW by 2017. This is stated in the news on the website of Power Engineering International.
According to the report, China’s National Development and Reform Commission has announced its intention to achieve a solar capacity of 70 GW. At the end of 2013, the country had 20 GW of solar capacity. In addition, the Chinese government intends to install another 150 GW of wind power capacity over the same period.
The government statement also outlines plans to expand the country’s capacity by 11 GW using biomass energy by 2017, 330 GW from hydroelectric power plants, as well as increase the capacity of nuclear power plants to 50 GW and expand natural gas supplies by 330 billion cubic meters.
