Scientists — why do koalas hug trees

According to Australian researchers, so the Aussies want to avoid overheating of the body.

Scientists of the University of Melbourne tracked koalas with radio collars. They found that in summer, marsupial bears pressed against the trunks of trees much more often. In further studies, it was found: the trees had a temperature of 9 degrees below the air temperature. Researcher Natalie Briscoe said: "Access to these trees help to save about half the water a Koala. Our results emphasize the important role of tree trunks, original radiators, which provide a cool microenvironment not only for koalas, but for all species living on trees".
