Thousands of empty spider crab shells on Jersey Island beach

Residents of the island of Jersey were very confused when they discovered a beach dotted with thousands of carcasses of dead spider crabs. Jersey is located in the English Channel and separates southern England from northern France. When you see a large number of dead animals, the thought immediately appears in your head - an environmental disaster, but in fact everything is much better than it may seem at first glance.

They only seem to be dead crabs, they're not actually crabs. These are empty shells of spider crabs that come to shore every summer to shed their old shells. According to the BBC, about 4,000 empty shells of spider crabs were thrown ashore this year.

In fact, this is a common picture, but so many empty shells on the shore was not long ago.

Scientists are not sure why so many empty shells were thrown ashore this year.

All shells are in excellent condition.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to step on that barefoot.
