On the surface of the Earth registered a record ultraviolet radiation

Recently, scientists have recorded a record ultraviolet radiation, which four times exceeds maximum permissible for the human body dose. A team of researchers from Germany and the USA found that, contrary to expectations, the most destructive ultraviolet light was in the tropics in the region of the Bolivian Andes.

The instruments showed the index UVI, is 26, despite the fact that if the score reaches 8 units, doctors do not recommend on the street for more than 10 minutes.

The author is research Natalie Cabral emphasizes that the experts expect to find the UV maximum in Antarctica, which is not located one the ozone hole.

In this part of the world effects of UV records to humans would be minimal, because in Antarctica, people almost do not live. However, the fact that the highest rates were found in the territory, which is situated next to several settlements, including cities, to cause some degree of anxiety.

As experts explain, the opening they made by chance, during another research project aimed at studying the "Martian" landscapes of the planet. In the course of scientific work, the researchers found several dosimeters in the Andes mountains around Alpine lakes at different altitudes.

It turned out that the ultraviolet radiation near lake Laguna Blanca and the top of the volcano and surrounded by is extraordinary. Readings in 11 units are already considered critical for human health and in the area numbers of the dosimeter rose another 15 points.

The detected radiation index though is by far a record for the planet, but scientists have recorded a more significant rate in 2003, which amounted to 43 units.

Cabral, believes that there is no single reason which could explain such high numbers. As scientists say, in such cases, the development of the situation brought the "perfect storm" of events, that is an unfortunate turn extremely negative circumstances. This thin ozone layer and emission of aerosols from fires, and a powerful flash in the Sun.

But, as the scientists, there is no guarantee that the same set of events will not be repeated in other parts of the world, bringing with it a risk to the health of thousands of people.
