House in Hawaii made of wood collected on an island

Creative artist and carpenter Jay Nelson showed the world his latest masterpiece: a 200-square-foot house that, despite its miniature size, looks simply fascinating.

Located on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, the small wooden house was built from 25,000 pounds of redwood waste that was collected on the island over a two-month period. The interior of the house is also made of wood.
Nelson has already been repeatedly noted for unusual creations: from cute wooden campsites to “soaring in the air” multi-storey houses in trees.

The house, which was completed only last week, is made of scrap materials in the artist’s peculiar geometric style – the house has an asymmetrical roof. The house was installed on a wooden platform to avoid flood damage.

Inside, the giant windows and sunroof provide an opportunity to illuminate the house with natural sunlight. Ventilation in the house is also carried out in a natural way - with the help of wind. The artist considered that in the climate of Hawaii, there is no need to make a dwelling isolated from the gentle warm winds. At the same time, the semi-open walls offer views of the surrounding tropical paradise.

A wooden house in Hawaii

Having surrendered to fantasy, Nelson made unusual round windows at the level of the attic. The bathroom was placed under the stairs leading to the attic. The open layout and high ceilings help create a sense of spaciousness, despite the small size of the housing.

If the host wants to bring a large company to visit, the size of the house can be increased - folding doors open to the platform on which the house is installed. In this simple way, the house turns into a charming wooden arbor among the tropical forest, surprisingly harmonizing with it.
