Glass of appetite: myths and reality
Thirty seven million eight hundred two thousand three hundred forty one
Alcohol affects the internal organs, but some believe that it can be used as a therapeutic agent. Is it really so?
In 1915, the Congress of Russian physicians dedicated to the memory of the famous surgeon N. I. I. Pirogov, in his ruling noted that in humans there is no body that alcohol would not exert any destructive actions.
Science has completely reliable information on the harmful impact of alcohol on brain cells. Alcohol reduces brain volume, his "shrinkage" in violation of the processes of intracellular metabolism, changes the human psyche, leads, as we have said, to the emergence of alcohol dependence.
The ill-fated "glass for the appetite" gradually alters the composition of the gastric juice, impairs digestion. In addition, prolonged irritation of the mucous membrane of the stomach first causes gastritis and can then lead to ulcers and, in some cases, to cancer of the stomach. Regular consumption of even small doses of alcohol causes changes in the tissue of liver and pancreas and, as a consequence, chronic liver inflammation (hepatitis), the disintegration of the pancreas.
At the Congress, which we mentioned, it was pointed out that alcohol has no medicinal properties and therefore cannot be considered a cure. However, misconceptions about its "healing" action of the widely distributed and quite hardy. "Drink for the disinfection of the stomach", "to cauterize the ulcer" — which only absurdities do not hear from the drinkers.Must clearly state — an obvious nonsense is the use of alcohol "for the disinfection of the stomach": the alcohol is so rapidly absorbed from the stomach and intestines into the blood, what about any "disinfection" of these bodies cannot be considered. And to kill microbes trapped in the bloodstream, you need to drink this amount of alcohol, which is many times higher than the lethal dose.
The use of alcohol or vodka for the "treatment" of the ulcers of stomach and duodenum — a truly barbaric way: "to cauterize" the ulcer for a number of reasons it is impossible, alcohol just dulls the pain. And ulcerative process will continue and may lead to serious complications: gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcer perforation, etc.
In connection with the increase of diseases of the heart and blood vessels recently the adherents of the alcohol spread different versions about what alcohol is, they say, "dilates blood vessels", "aligns the heart", "antispasmodics". However, it should be recalled that almost 75% of alcoholics do not die from acute alcohol poisoning and from diseases of the cardiovascular system caused by alcohol abuse. According to research conducted by the all-Union cardiological scientific center, Academy of medical Sciences of the USSR, alcohol damage to the heart muscles is the cause of sudden death in approximately 25-30% of cases.
Moreover, the damage to the heart muscle develops not only in patients with chronic alcoholism, but also a drink ("home of the drunks"). The important point is that sudden death in alcoholic cardiomyopathy (alcohol-induced heart muscle) occurs at a younger age than ischemic heart disease. According to the head of the Department of cardiovascular pathology heart centre, corresponding member of AMS of USSR A. M. Wiechert, 40% died suddenly from alcoholic cardiomyopathy were younger than 40 years, and ischemic heart disease in this age group made up only 12%. So alcohol is the strongest poison for the heart muscle, but because he never was and never will be "medicine for the heart".
Foregoing only to a small extent reflects the harmful effects of alcohol on the human body and calls for one thing — absolute sobriety.published
P. S. And remember, only by changing their consumption — together we change the world! ©
