UBeam ultrasonic charging will be available anywhere

The company uBeam announced the creation of the first fully functional prototype of the ultrasonic charger is ready for commercial implementation. The basis of the device was adopted by more than early conceptual prototype developed by 25-year-old founder of uBeam, Meredith Perry (Meredith Perry) for student innovation competition.

The ultrasonic transmitter charging converts electrical energy into ultrasonic vibrations and transmits them into space. Receiver connected to a portable electronic device in need of energy, detects the radiation and converts it into electricity.

Technology allows owners of mobile electronics to move freely in the area of access, while a smartphone or laptop replenish the battery.

"This is the only wireless power system that allows us to be "on the phone" and move freely around the room while the device is charging — said Meredith Perry. Is the same as Wi-Fi, you have to be in range of the transmitter".

Ultrasonic uBeam charging station will be quite thin, not more than 5 mm in thickness. Transmitters can be fastened to the walls without damaging the interior. Smartphones and laptops can be equipped with even more delicate receivers which converts the ultrasound energy.

Technology can significantly change the electronic gadgets. Equipped with uBeam receivers, they will be able to get rid of capacious batteries getting food almost constantly.

"If wireless power is everywhere, battery size can be reduced because the charge is constant, says Perry. — You will never need to plug in the cord, and you will not need international charging adapters".

Perry promises the ultrasonic output of the charger to the market within two years. It is planned to manufacture two different devices. One is designed for small spaces, and the other, larger, for large halls airports, hotels and stadiums.

In addition, the company found that the technology can be used not only for transmitting energy but also information with a high degree of protection. This means that uBeam ultrasonic charging can be used for communication and for Internet access.

Among the limitations of the new technology — the inability of ultrasound to penetrate walls of buildings. This means that for each room will need to install a separate transmitter power.

In addition, it is unclear how the new method will appeal to consumers. Opponents cite the example of the conventional wireless charging in the middle of the action who have not received special distribution.

But the company uBeam confident of success, as the range of the ultrasound is much greater. Perry hopes to saturate the market with their transmitters and ultrasound to make charge available as well as Wi-Fi. published
