Aspen — the third city in the United States, which is fully switched to alternative energy sources

Recently another city in the United States – aspen, Colorado, has announced that it switched to electricity only from renewable sources. This significant event was preceded by nearly 10 years of work on the implementation of projects of construction of plants that convert solar, wind and geothermal energy into electricity that is used for the needs of the city.

And now in this beautiful tourist city, one of the largest ski resorts in the United States located in the Rocky Mountains, all city utilities operate on environmentally friendly electricity. Officially, the city government announced a full transition to renewable sources of energy in the day, when it signed an agreement with the Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska, which provided the remaining 20 – 25 percent of energy needs previously covered through electricity generation coal-fired power plants.

It should be noted that aspen had to go to clean energy the city of Burlington and Vermont in the state of Kansas. As stated in the Institute of environmental and energy studies, next American city, which will fully switch to renewable energy will be in 2017, Georgetown, Texas. And two more cities — San Diego and San Jose in California are preparing such projects, however, the date of their implementation are still unknown.published
