Bike path out of solar panels - a promising future or an extra investment?

A year has passed since then, as in one of the Dutch cities has established an innovative "solar" cycle path.

All this time, the designers SolaRoad monitored the performance of its development. It is important to understand whether it is possible to count on such a project in the future. Recent measurements have shown — is possible.

Over the past year the project has produced 70 kilowatt-hours per square meter, enough to power three homes.

More than 9 800 kWh of energy was produced using "solar" Bicycle space, which a year ago did not produce any kilowatt of energy. However, the project cost is estimated at $ 3 700 000.

Of course, installing solar panels, for example, on the roof, today will be so much cheaper. Moreover, SolaRoad is estimated that their first "Sunny" track will be repaid within 15 years. But on the other hand, during this time, "green" technologies should significantly improve. So with each new track is a return on its investment should be reduced.

Now SolaRoad showed the effectiveness and the viability of their project. Employees we hope for further success of the initiative. And we are confident that over time their idea will be picked up in other cities and countries around the world.

The SolaRoad team started developing new and improved coatings for solar panels.

Unique Bicycle track with a length of 70 meters, consists of concrete blocks with a size of 2.5 × 3.5 meters. On the face of the blocks under tempered glass 1 cm thick solar panels. According to the project, produced with the help of this path, the energy is sent to the city network.published
