Barcelona will launch a local digital currency

Barcelona City Council is working on the release of proprietary digital currency in the next six months, writes newspaper El Pais. Mayor of Hell Cola (Ada Colau) believes that the currency with the inner city, and convenient mobile emission calculations can encourage local trade.

It is not entirely clear what is the local currency, whether this is a real cryptocurrency modeled Bitcoins. It is only known from the words of the representatives of the city council that digital money will be stored on the mobile wallet and can be exchanged for euro cash.

In addition, civil servants will be able to receive part of their salary in local currency. Shops in the city, too, can take the currency to make purchases, and it is receiving microcredit from the city authorities.

Representatives of the National Bank of Spain has негативно commended the initiative of the city government of Barcelona. According to them, it is "impossible as desirable».

At the same time, some independent economists believe that the issue of local currency actually stimulates the economy, when people have not a large number of conventional money.
