Campbell and Omura discovered a new class of drugs based on metabolic products of fungi Streptomyces avermitilis to fight infections, which carry parasitic worms. Chinese player Yu Tu learned extract of the herb Artemisia annua, called artemisinin. The extract reduces mortality from malaria.
