Music can change the perception of the world
Music is not only able to affect your mood, happy or sad listening to music may even change how we perceive the world. To such conclusions a new study by the University of Groningen.
Music and mood are closely linked, since, depending on the nature of the song, you can yourself feel better or worse. However, such mood changes not only affect the way you feel, they also alter your perception of the world. For example, people are beginning to see the happy faces, if they are happy themselves.
A new study led by psychologist Jacob Zholizh (Jacob Jolij) showed that music enhances our perception of the world even if it is in fact not the case, people still see happy faces when they listen to the cheerful music and sad faces while listening to sad songs.
In the experiment, the volunteers had to be separated from the sad emoticons fun while listening to music of different character. Music, as it turned out, had a great influence on the fact that the subjects saw: smileys that matched the music, have been identified quickly and accurately. At the same time, emoticons, which did not express any emotions were automatically listed as a category, what type of song played at the moment, that is, sad or cheerful.
The latter seemed to find particularly interesting for professionals. "The vision of things that do not really have, is the result of brain processes occurring" from the top down. " Conscious perception is largely based on these top-down processes: your brain constantly compares the information received through the eyes, with their expectations based on what he knows about the world. The end result of this comparison - this is what we will eventually give out for reality. The result of our research showed that the brain builds up expectations not only on the basis of experience, but on the basis of a person's mood ».
