Unattractive Tutankhamun

Combining computer scans and DNA analysis, experts were able to recreate the image of the legendary faraona

when British archaeologist Howard Carter in 1922 discovered the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun, she spoke about the wonderful things he had seen. After that, the boy pharaoh, with its golden cave gilded mask and untimely death, captured the imagination of the world. Now, the channel BBC in a documentary, "Tutankhamun: naked truth", scientists have lifted the veil of secrecy surrounding the life of Pharaoh, and his death. According to the scientists, with the iconic mask pharaoh with very pointy features, hidden is a normal human face.

The film demonstrates the Air Force "virtual autopsy" Pharaoh, which uses the data collected since 2000 computer scans and after careful genetic analysis. All this leads to the conclusion that Tutankhamun had been "slightly protruding teeth, deformed foot and girlish hips».

It is likely that the king relied on walking cane. This is confirmed by the fact that his tomb was found 130 sticks. The film also says that the appearance of Tutankhamun have been, to put it mildly, not very. And what is most likely the result of incest between his parents, who could be brother and sister. Albert Zink, scientific director of the Italian Institute for mummies examined the DNA of the family of Pharaoh found that Tutankhamun's father was the pharaoh Akhenaten, who joined the incestuous relationship with the sister. In ancient Egypt, incest was not uncommon, and in a society that does not condemn as detrimental effects of inbreeding were not yet well known. Tutankhamun himself also married his half-sister, Anhesenpaaton when ascended to the throne at the age of 9 or 10 years.

But the most disappointing revelation, shown in the film, was that of Tutankhamun's death was not the result of chariot races (his deformed leg made impossible any race). There was not a horrible murder of the pharaoh. In fact it was quite glamorous: the pharaoh most likely was the victim of hereditary hormonal imbalance, which he is very weak and died. So majestic Pharaoh Tutankhamun, apparently, was a loose, clumsy and rather sickly teenager.
