Hollywood wants to censor films in the public domain

MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America), Motion Picture Association of America, bringing together the largest US filmmakers decided peculiar way to deal not only with the spread of pirated copies of film production, but now with the content extends to the right of the public domain (public domain).

As the portal TorrentFreak, MPAA ran through takedown request in Google portal OpenCulture.com , which has one of the largest collections of cultural and educational media content on the Web. At the request of MPAA, this online resource contains links to more than 700 films and they all violate copyright free propagation.

It is noteworthy that the Open Culture is not hosting content, and is a collector of links to other Internet resources, which spread in the free access those works that have passed into the public domain. In general, references are given to such portals as Archive.org, YouTube, Vimeo, and in some cases video from external hosts built on the pages of the portal.

At the MPAA in the habit of sending queries to Google obviously not infringing sites, and including to those sites that are likely to be broken, demanding to remove immediately all homepage of various Internet resources.

A few days ago, for example, MPAA sent a request to Google, to remove the link to the homepage of one of the most popular torrent sites Kickass.so, along with several other torrent portals. As in previous cases these, Google refused, as request was too broad.

And now requests from the MPAA for removal from the SERPs materials have become more alarming - with a new purpose by Hollywood filmmakers - it queries in Google to remove links to content in the public domain.

As says Dan Coleman (Dan Colman) from Stanford University, who is the founder and editor of a leading portal OpenCulture.com, content content on this site is chosen with great care.

MPAA, however, asked Google to remove the whole page (contains links to 700 films) from the search results, as shown in the figure below:

All this once again exposes holders not in the best light and confirms their unbridled desire to fight the spread of free knowledge at all costs.
In a free license and public cultural patrimony they see a threat to their business.

Let me remind you that Russia continues to campaign & quot; Time to change copyright & quot ;, which is to support eliminating such desires holders to put as many barriers between the author and the consumer instead, to be effective mediators of the process of cultural exchange that take into account the interests of all parties.
