NASA satellite passes control ISEE-3 in the hands of enthusiasts Astronautics

Back in April Habré published an article about the fact that a group of enthusiasts to raise funds for the restoration of the ISEE-3 satellite (fully working), launched in 1978, and successfully carry out its tasks to freeze the project.

This satellite has appeared simply unnecessary NASA, after completion of the mission, and it just "froze". Nevertheless, all the tools (13 scientific systems) work just as well, as in 1999, when the satellite was "frozen".

probe designed to study the interaction of the magnetic field of the Earth and the solar wind, and, after completion of the first stage, for the study of comets. The device was launched in 1978 and successfully worked until 1999.

So, funds were collected (150 thousand dollars instead of 125 planned), and NASA recently signed an agreement to transfer the satellite team in the hands of enthusiasts.

Now the satellite's position is such that operators can take advantage of the position of the lunar gravity assist to commit, changing the orbit of the probe. Management will be using the 18-meter antenna at the Applied Physics Laboratory at Johns Hopkins University. Among other things, the team that deals with the probe, had recreated the software to control the satellite and its scientific instruments.

Well, it remains only to wish success to the team.
