Carnival in Macedonia

Carnival in the Macedonian village of Vevcani (170 km from the Macedonian capital) is derived from the ancient pagan rites and still is very popular among tourists for its wild extravagant mood. For over 1,400 years the people once a year clothed in dresses and frightening masks, like their ancestors, and take to the streets, where all participants of the carnival. It lasts two days, 13 and 14 January.
