Gypsy village of Bajo on the island of Borneo

Photographer Adam Docker says this about their first impressions: "the feeling that you have arrived at a long lost tribe, similar to those shown on the BBC". Gypsy village Bajo is on the island Borneo, near the town of Semporna, in the Malaysian state of Sabah. Surrounded by crystal clear water turquoise water, coral reefs, cabins-barns look amazing.

Docker came to this village to shoot a documentary about the plight of Gypsies worldwide. Fortunately, to reach the village not too difficult. Bajo live on stilts, which are located in the vicinity of the island.

A rich coral reef area is environmentally valuable area between Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Solomon Islands, Indonesia, Malaysia and Timor-Leste. This area is also famous for marine bio diversity and deservedly is called the "Amazon of the seas". From fishing in these areas, directly affects over 120 million people.

When it comes to fishing, Bajo are marked as excellent swimmers and fishermen, who can hold their breath for up to 5 minutes, and swim at a depth of 20 meters. These skills they develop from childhood. This is not surprising because Baggio almost born in the world.

The ability to hold your breath for a long time is not the only distinctive feature of the Bajo. Their eyes are also adapted in order to better see underwater and do underwater hunting.

One of the most poorly performing parts of the human body is the eardrum. At Bajo, they are often broken, sometimes deliberately, at an early age. Divers quite often die in great depth.

No one knows for sure where did Baggio and why they lead an aquatic way of life. Two different theories suggest that they could have come from the Philippines and Johor, (Malaysia), while the third theory States that they came from Riau archipelago Islands of Indonesia. Some Bajo believe that they are descended from the Royal guards of the Sultanate of Johor.

Despite the fact that the village is just an hour from civilization, it seems that it is hundreds of miles from the real world. In the village often come to the city to personally see the amazing lifestyle of the locals, is another income for Bajo.
