Indonesian volcano emits glowing liquid - a unique photo story
Surely, You've seen pictures of awesome natural phenomena — the eruption of lava. Usually, this is a huge fiery streams of bright orange color, however in this article we will discuss about fire streams of blue. Photographer Olivier Grunewald in his photos gave one of the most amazing natural phenomena – the eruption of the volcano kawa Ijen lava blue.
Perhaps this place would be like on a normal mount by day, but at night Indonesian volcano kawa Ijen becomes extremely surreal place where the surface of the mountain covered with ethereal neon blue lava. Olivier and his friend spent 30 nights in very dangerous conditions, documenting this amazing phenomenon. During this time they have created a collection of incredible photos with a lot of exciting events:
“For over 40 years, miners have extracted sulphur from the crater of Kawah Ijen in Indonesia. To double their meager income, the hardiest of these men work nights. After the sun sets, an eerie glow rises from the depths of the crater. High-temperature liquid sulfur that flows from the active vent, burning in blue flames, which can reach up to 5 meters. At the feet of the miners heat, they are always among the toxic fumes. They control the flow of sulfur with a temperature of 115 °C, and then it is amenable to crystallization. Smashing, collecting, loading and transporting this thick blood of the earth, miners earn to their families survived. The final product they sell for 680 rupees per kg (approximately 0.04€). And the cargo that they carry, weigh about 80 — 100 kilos, cost them health, and sometimes life.
