Scientists how to turn light into matter

Theory of turning light into matter was proposed in 1934. Researchers from Imperial College London now believe they can do it with the help of powerful lasers.

After 80 years of trying, scientists around the world to turn pure light into matter researchers from Imperial College London say they have found a way to convert light into matter by using new equipment in the form of a powerful laser, high intensity, able to accelerate electrons to a speed slightly less than the speed of light. The experiment involves the explosive activation of electrons accelerated by lasers to speed a bit less than the speed of light in a slab of gold to create a beam of photons a billion times more energetic than visible light. First, scientists are using high-energy laser to create the sample thermal radiation that produces light, like a star. Then the photons from the two sources collide and form electrons and positrons.

Dr. Oliver pike said: "Although the theory is conceptually simple, but its difficult to check experimentally. The model that we propose can be implemented with relative ease and with existing technology".
