Billionaire inventor Elon Musk fears artificial intelligence

If robots take over our planet one day, Elon Musk will probably say, “I told you so!” It turns out that the brilliant billionaire inventor, who likes to bring the impossible into reality, is seriously worried about research in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

Last week, Musk tweeted the following:

“We need to be very careful with artificial intelligence. It is potentially more dangerous than nuclear warheads.”

After a while, the inventor continued to think about it:

I hope you and I are not some sort of bootloader for the artificial superintelligence of the future. But it seems to me that this is exactly where it is going.”

These words sound rather ominous. Given that Elon Musk has a much greater understanding of cutting-edge technology than many of us, it’s safe to assume he knows what he’s talking about. And this is not the first time a brilliant inventor has spoken negatively about artificial intelligence.

During an interview with CNBC earlier this year, Musk asked scientists to be extremely careful with the development of artificial intelligence, and also jokingly compared the possible future of mankind with the plot of the film Terminator.

Given that the Internet giant Google has acquired Boston Dynamics, which develops the most impressive robots to date, and DeepMind, which creates artificial intelligence, we can assume that in the coming years we will see something resembling intelligent humanoid robots.

Artificial intelligence expert Ray Kurzweil (who was also hired by Google), however, argues that we should not fear for our future. According to him, people are simply trying to improve their lives and themselves with the help of advanced AI.

There will be no “us against the machines.” We are simply expanding our own capabilities by creating independent thinking mechanisms, Kurzweil said.

On the other hand, Musk is not trying to stop the development of artificial intelligence, but only asking scientists to be extremely careful. It is understandable – to trust a reasonable machine nuclear red button should not be in any case.
