Tikko old: the oldest tree in the world — 9550 years!

"Old Tikko" – the oldest 9550 year old tree in the world. This spruce in 2004 found Leif Kullman, Professor of Physical geography at umeå University. He called her a name of her deceased husky. Tree age was determined by radiocarbon Dating of the root system.

"During the ice age the water level here was 120 metres lower than today, and most of the modern North sea between England and Norway at that time was a forest," – said Professor Kullman Swedish tabloid Aftonblade. Due to winds and low temperatures spruce for thousands of years remained low. In the XX century, the tree went back to normal, and at the beginning of the XXI century, the height of the Old Tikko was 5 meters.

The oldest tree stands on the hill Fulufjellet in the province of Dalarna in Sweden.
