Male mice sing for females





Scientists have recently found that male house mice are able to produce sounds as a kind of music, which primarily aims to attract females.

Each tune has a tonal range. The human ear can pick up such low frequencies. But exactly what each individual mouse its "song". Sound reproduced household mice for a long period of time considered to be a simple squeak. However, as it turned out, these particular sounds, something reminiscent of the singing of birds, not nothing like a romantic song to attract individuals of the opposite sex. A careful study of the records of such a "squeak" the scientists were surprised to notice the common singing of birds.

The researchers used a special digital audio software equipment in order to determine the duration and frequency of the "song of motives" house mice. The results amazed: it turns out that each male song contains a "fingerprint", a kind of information that distinguishes one from the other males, including the so-called brothers, that is a mouse droppings. This discovery helps to understand how the females manage to avoid inbreeding, ie inbreeding.
