Modern tattooing machine invented by Thomas Edison

inventor of the electric tattooing machine is considered to be Samuel O'Reilly. But in fact, he just improved tool.

He invented the tattoo machine for Thomas Edison - or rather, he created a device called "electric pen", which served as part of the machine for copying documents and enjoy while in great demand among businessmen. The principle of operation is based on the reciprocating motion, that is the engine pushing one single needle machine and no paint pierced holes of the stencil. Then this pattern through a roller to apply paint, and ink remained on paper, exactly repeating the pattern of screen holes - so arose an exact copy of the document.

O'Reilly came to mind that the device can be attached to the container for paint, but instead use a needle several - so was born the first of tattoo machine. O'Reilly patented the invention, established its production, after which a new device quickly gained popularity.

I must say that tattooing machines since then has not changed much, and how they work has remained the same: the needles pierce holes in the skin, then the skin is supplied paint. Edison probably could not have imagined that his invention will find an unusual application and not become obsolete after a half-century.
