"Sound chamber" will help visually identify the source of the sound
Annoying noise in cars - parasitic buzz, squeak and rattle - one of the main causes of frustration and discomfort while driving, especially in the new car. Elimination of potential sources of noise on the stage of development and prototyping helps very effectively deal with annoying sounds in the cabin. But there are noises fickle, without any express epicenter, which appear and disappear without any logic. And to determine their source is often very difficult to provoke even more.
The Korean company SM Instruments together with designers Hyundai Motor Group have developed a device to help you quickly find sources of noise in the range from 200 Hz to 20 kHz. After all, in the car many potential sources of noise pollution: the engine, the car body, dashboard, seats, doors, whatever. All they can vibrate or rub against the surrounding parts and assemblies. The result was the work of specialists manual "sound chamber» SeeSV-S205 , which is based on a few dozen inexpensive but sensitive MEMS-microphones, similar to those used in mobile phones. Microphones are located around the camera in the form of five spiral curved beams. The device compares the signals received from each microphone to determine its source on the camera.
Compact device allows real-time at 25 frames / sec overlay the image tag, showing not only a source of sound, but also its intensity. Programmable logic controller and a graphical user interface allows you to narrow the range of frequencies defined for increasing the accuracy.
Despite the fact that "sound chamber" was developed for the automotive industry, it can be successfully used in other areas to identify the sources of noise in any engineering projects.
