"Hairy" electricity

The teenager from a rural village in Nepal Milan Karki certainly knows how to developing countries in need of a cheap (or even free) energy produced as possible from renewable sources. Rather than whine and complain about the bad situation sky in the country, Milan sat down and came up with the solution: cheap solar panels with human hair as guides.

Solar energy is not some novelty, but existing methods of production of silicon solar cells are still very expensive. Karki solved the problem with the cost of replacing silicon in the human hair containing melanin pigment hair color, which is a good conductor of electricity. Oh yeah, we have not yet mentioned that the hair is cheaper silicon?



According to Karki, half a kilo of hair can be bought in Nepal just 16 pence (8 rubles) and will last several months, while a battery pack is about 50 pence (about 25 rubles) and the battery will last one - a maximum two days.
