Sikhism as a religious movement arose at the beginning of the XVI century in the North-West India. Its founder was Guru Nanak, who was born in 1469 in Talwandi (district of Lahore). He traveled widely, even reach Mecca, and at the beginning of XVI century settled in the Punjab, where he began to preach the new doctrine. He and his successors and followers formed a well-organized religious community of Sikhs. Over time, the Sikhs became an independent group, a kind of state within a state, with its own ideology, laws and leaders.

Sikhs believe in one God, the Almighty Creator and all-pervading. His real name nobody knows.
God is regarded on both sides - both Nirgun (Absolute) and how Sargun (personal God within each of the people). Before Creation, God existed as the Absolute itself, but in the process of creation, he expressed himself. Before creation there was nothing - no heaven, no hell, no three worlds - only formless. When God wanted to express myself (as Sargun), it first found its expression in terms of name and came across the name of nature in which God is dissolved and is present everywhere and in all directions, as Love.
