Garrett began his career as soon as he graduated from the school in 1941. At first he worked in the Graphic House, New York's leading fotoagenstve. As a result in the early 1950s Garrett's talent has already become evident for most of the stars, their PR-campaigns and major studios. And the photographer decides to leave the Graphic House and embark on a single independent navigation. Then he founds Garrett-Howard, together with his old friend Jean Howard, portrait photographer. In a relatively short period of time they have become one of Hollywood's most successful fotoagenstv. They offer both free and studio shooting for publishing houses and worked at private events of his famous clients.

For example, while Garrett exclusively lit indoor reception of Frank Sinatra, organized in honor of the birth of Natalie Wood.

He became the only photographer invited Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton in his trip to Disney when the couple lived in a private apartment of Walt Disney.

In 1960, as a partner and art director, a tandem-Garrett Howard joins Leo Monahan. And their company, they renamed Studio Five. Studio Five soon became a leader in the field of photography and design, which caters to the entertainment industry.
Studio Five at the time worked for all the major US record companies and movie studios. In one year, the company created 350 covers for music albums. At the same time, Murray Garrett was elected to the directorate NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences).

In 1989, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences with the aim to show reverence to the Master Pictures arranged a luxurious reception in honor of the opening of the retrospective exhibition of Murray Garrett.
