Chzhagan Chen (Chen Jiagang) and Third Front

Large-scale images of this photographer are a combination of documentary, conceptual and staged photography. The images in the works of Chen are symbols of Chinese history.

Chzhagan Chen (Chen Jiagang) was born in 1962 in China. Studied architecture in Chongqing, and fully engaged in photography began in 2001. Working on a series of photos of their "Third Front", he visited a large number of abandoned villages and factories. In 1964, due to the unstable foreign policy of China, heavy industry factories were built in the heart of the country, previously uninhabited regions of the Deaf, which has led to the displacement of millions of workers. This was the birth of the so-called Third Front, the Chinese economic boom began areas. However, in the early 1980s, due to the new economic reform, factories were closed, and most industrial cities were deserted. Chen visited many places in different areas of China and photographed industrial wasteland. The images of the series "Third Front" there are women and young girls.
