What is hydrolate and why is it needed?

To obtain hydrolate, you need to heat the distilled water and pass the resulting steam through plant raw materials (grass, leaves, roots, bark or flower petals).





Next, the steam, which has absorbed all the useful properties of plants, must be cooled and divided into fractions. It turns out a clear liquid, which is also called floral water, and very little pure essential oil.





You can make hydrolate at home, but this will require special equipment - a distillation cube or alambik.





The real hydrolate will be almost transparent. This is a means of mild aromatherapy that does not contain alcohol, oils, suspensions, does not require dilution and does not have restrictions on age and health.

Hydrolate applications

Choosing hydrolate by skin type

1. For fatty
   Hydrolates of sage, mint, melissa, rosemary, pine normalize the work of the sebaceous glands and contribute to the cleansing of pores.
   
   
2. For sensitive
   Hydrolates of rose, chamomile, gamamamelis, jasmine moisturize and nourish the skin, but at the same time soothe it, removing irritation.
3. For age.

4. For troublesome
   Skin suffering from pimples and inflammation needs products that cleanse well and relieve itching. These include tea tree hydrolates, hyssop, orange flowers, chamomile, cornflower.
5. For dry
   This type of skin requires intensive moisturizing and getting rid of peeling. Suitable hydrolates based on jasmine, rose and ylang-ylang.
6. For normal.
   Hydrolates based on vervain, lavender, calendula, cornflower will support the tone and refresh the skin color.

To choose a good hydrolate, you need to remember a few rules. The packaging should only have the inscription “hydrolate” or “distillate” of a particular plant.

If the composition contains water and essential oil, then this tool can not be called a real hydrolate. Such solutions are often called cooked waters, there is no special benefit from them.
