When will the meat-and-empty Saturday in 2022 and what not to do on this day

In the Orthodox calendar there are special days to commemorate the dead. They are called parent Saturdays and are celebrated in the run-up to fasting. The nearest parental, or meat-empty Saturday of this year will come on February 26. It falls on the Saturday before the Shrove Week and the Great Lent that begins after it.

On Friday evening on the eve of Ecumenical Parent Saturday, a great memorial service is held in Orthodox churches. And on Saturday morning in the churches serve the funeral Divine Liturgy, after which people put candles for repose and remission of sins.

In the old days on February memorial Saturday cooked kutya. The grain symbolizes eternal life and abundance. Honey - health and well-being, and poppy and nuts - prosperity, fertility and love.

On the same day, the first pancakes are baked, some of which are carried to the cemetery and distributed to those in need. Believers should go to the temple and pray, give alms and feed homeless animals.

Relatives go to the cemetery to remember the departed loved ones. It is better to clean around the graves the day before. After that, the family gathers at a table with an odd number of dishes, commemorative quizel, pancakes and traditional kutya.

What not to do on parental Saturday? In addition to traditions, there are prohibitions that must be taken into account in order not to incur sin. Meatless Saturday should pass without heavy physical work. On this day, you can not eat meat, speak ill of the dead and refuse to give alms.

It is not necessary to grieve desperately, grieve and kill for loved ones. Man has left us in a better world. But there's also a lot of fun out there. On this date, believers should not arrange holidays, weddings, have fun, dance and drink alcohol.

People usually prepare for religious holidays in advance. In order not to miss anything, it is important to remember what date a particular event falls on. Keeping all the days in your head is hard. Therefore, we have prepared for you a new Orthodox Church calendar for 2022. So you can safely keep it in your notes and use it throughout the year. Let the calendar always be at hand!
