Electric car Spyker: to be or not to be?

To start a brief educational program about Spyker. Dutch company Spyker, in its current form emerged in 1999, when it bought up the rights for the trademark Spyker (manufacturer of carriages, cars, planes in 1898-1925), began producing exclusive supercars Spyker C8. The basis of these cars was the engine of the Audi V8 is, to put it mildly, very far from the world of electric vehicles.

However, in early 2016, information appeared that Spyker may launch its first electric car. All doubts were dispelled on March 1 at the Geneva motor show when the company showed its next supercar – the Spyker C8 Preliator. The heart of which was, no, not the electric motor and petrol engine Audi V8 volume of 4.2 liters, which gave out 525 HP of power and 600 Nm of torque. As stated by the representatives of the company Spyker "in our cars are important emotions, the sound of the engine, the feel of the ride and control a powerful car with mechanics and without stabilization system". It seems that buyers agree with Spyker, and therefore of the 50 Spyker C8 Preliator 90% will be equipped with a manual transmission.

However, the story of carts Spyker it is not over, and suddenly got a sequel in mid 2016 with the possible release of an electric CUV. We are talking about the model of the Spyker D12 Peking to Paris, shown as a concept car in 2006-m to year at the Geneva motor show. Then a big crossover (length 4,95 m; width 2 m; height of 1.67 m, weight 2000 kg) were fitted with the Audi engine W12 with 500 HP, allowing to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5 seconds and develop maximum of 280 km/h.

At that time, the concept car Spyker D12 Peking to Paris was excessive in everything: power, dynamics, exclusivity. But now with the advent of the Bentley Bentayga, Maserati Levante,Tesla Model X – the world is ready for such expensive and exclusive crossovers. Accordingly, Spyker can also find their niche – albeit not very large, but the company never sought to mass produce. In support of this there have been statements by the representatives of Spyker, in the case of start of production D12 Peking to Paris "...preferably be in the range of 12-cylinder engine, a version with the V8, you might think about the electric version of the crossover, since the market is asking for". Simply put, Spyker is aiming to compete not only with the Bentley Bentayga, Maserati Levante, but also with top-end versions of the Tesla Model X crossover, which is not know the competitors.

But what can a small company that produces a few dozen cars a year, the recent bankruptcy and reorganization, the development of electric cars, which need investments in the hundreds of millions or a couple billion dollars? The correct answer is to look for a partner.

May worked aviation roots possibly other unknown factors, but a partner of Spyker is now aircraft manufacturer Volta Volare, which produces exclusive private aircraft series GT4. With hybrid drive by the way: the main engine is the electric motor peak power 220 kW (300 HP), the power of which is provided with the kit battery. If necessary he comes to the rescue of the internal combustion engine-generator power output of 180 HP with a fuel capacity 87 L.

With such a sophisticated design, according to the manufacturer, the aircraft Volta Volare GT4 is one of the best business jets for private use.

To us, this story is interesting because such a propulsion system (motor and battery; optional – internal combustion engine-generator) could get off and crossover Spyker. If all goes according to plan, the first small-scale version of the crossover Spyker D12 Peking to Paris we will see in 2017, the year – initially version with the internal combustion engine. And all electric crossover Spyker D12 Peking to Paris will come in 1-2 years. As a result, by 2018-2019, the world electric vehicles can be replenished with one of the most exclusive and original crossovers on the planet.published
