Sponge battery can be a fuel of the future

Researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of technology first developed conductive ORGANOMETALLIC framework (MOF). Perhaps they will become the basis for creating new generation of batteries, including for electric cars.

Currently, supercapacitors based on carbon materials, which require for the production of high temperatures and aggressive chemicals. Spongy structure MOF's has a lot more surface area, which is the main factor in the production of such batteries. However, the most important task was to give this structure the ability to conduct current.

Our discovery will allow in the future to create a whole new industry based on materials of this kind, says Mircea Dink, a chemist from MIT and one of the authors of the study.

Even without optimizations, as a prototype, the new technology exceeds the capabilities of modern carbon supercapacitors. A team of scientists claims that their battery is capable of storing relatively large amounts of energy that can play an important role in how to make renewable energy a key element in the production of manufacturing industry. Simply put, it is a worthy alternative fuels based on fossil oil. In the future the full text and results of the study will be published in the journal Nature Materials. published
