"The main" invention of mankind of the outgoing year

Red, green, yellow, orange... M&M’s dragee manufacturers (like Skittles) somehow believe that consumers like the chaotic set of colors. Those who are used to laying everything out on shelves and dividing the dragee by flowers, have to go to tricks. Econet has collected examples of devices that make life easier for the second category of people.

One of the most recent developments was made on the basis of the Arduino microcontroller and it cost its creators $127. It sorts 80 dragees of M&M's per minute, and anyone can make it: the instructions and source code of the firmware for the controller are on the car page.

The creators of the sorting machine were inspired by another similar unit, which was presented in November 2012. Both machines work according to a similar method: candy in turn falls into the tube, where the color sensor. Depending on the color, the motor turns the chute to the required glass and the dragee falls down.

A couple of months later, Egenreiser presented a new version of his miracle machine. It can already separate not only Skittles, but also other candy – for this purpose there are special switches.

There is also a more compact solution that is made for a student project. But for beauty you need to pay for the speed of sorting – not everyone can wait until the end.

At the end of the year, scientists have discovered a new most dangerous substance.
