Materials that defy the laws of physics + video

The materials that will be discussed in this article are an extra reminder that the 21st century is in the courtyard. A repulsive liquid spray, or substance that absorbs an incredible amount of water, is not magic, it is just science.

Super-hydrophobic spray

This spray repels any liquid (including oil). Just spray it on any surface (cement block, shoes, clothes, electronics), and it will create a barrier through which the liquid can not penetrate. It just leaks without leaving a trace.

Super-absorbent material

An incredible new material called “upsalite” could prove indispensable if you want to, for example, eliminate an oil spill or collect toxic chemicals. It was created by a happy accident. In 2011, Swedish researchers accidentally left the material in a reaction chamber. Returning to the lab after the weekend, they discovered a substance that scientists for a hundred years considered “impossible” – non-toxic magnesium carbonate with an incredibly porous surface. It has a record area (about 800 m2 per gram of mass).

A liquid that is attracted to a magnet

Magnetic fluid is an amazing invention. This is a liquid with some properties of a solid substance - under the influence of a magnet, it can rise into the air, forming a hedgehog-like shape, crawl up the wall, and generally behave as if alive.

Soft as plasticine and strong as steel

This unique protective material looks like orange plasticine – soft, sticky, plastic and viscous. But if you wrap it, for example, around your finger and hit it from above with a hammer with all your strength, then absolutely nothing will happen to the finger.
