Killer plants - top 10
The words “killer” and “plant” do not seem to fit together at all. However, there are representatives of the flora, really worthy of nightmares:
10. Cape Swallow
One of the few insectivorous plants is the Cape dew. However, compared to the same Venus flytrap in which the trap is slammed with the victim inside, the Cape deer kills, allowing the victim to fully enjoy the elusive freedom. Pretty pink flowers with a wonderful aroma attract the victim and catch it like an octopus tentacles. After catching the insect, the edge of the leaf begins to slowly fold, and the victim begins to digest, remaining outdoors. Isn't it bloodthirsty enough for a plant?
9. The Mancinella Tree or Mancinella
Mancinella is one of the most dangerous plants on Earth and is even listed in the Guinness Book of Records. This tree is one of the most terrible killers of the plant world. It is hard to believe that a tree can kill. “I wonder what that means?” you ask. - Even if you sit there and read a book under it? We wouldn't even recommend hiding under mancinella from the rain. Drops from the tree will fall on you with poisonous milky juice, which is soaked through it. Standing under it, you risk being covered with blisters from head to toe. The fruit is also poisonous.
8. Ficus or fig tree
It would seem that what danger can be an ordinary ficus - except that the pot will fall from the balcony directly on the head. But it's not that simple. For wasps, fig tree is a real nightmare. The fact is that wasps are one of the pollinating insects, and if the insect ceases to pollinate ficus, then very soon it will be covered by “ficus” anger. I wonder, you ask, how can this ficus take revenge on the wasp? The answer is: anger will fall on her offspring. If the wasp that built a nest on the wall of the fruit ceases to pollinate the ficus, the tree will throw off the fruit, thereby destroying the offspring.
7. Puya chili
In fact, Puya Chilean has another name - "sheep eater". The plant itself, of course, does not eat sheep, but traps it by launching its thorns into the wool of a passing sheep, causing the immobilized poor sheep to die of starvation. The feast of the plant comes when the corpse begins to decompose. Now ask yourself, “Which is worse: a predator that kills and immediately eats the prey or is it a plant?”
6. Milk-bearing
At first glance, it is unclear how dangerous this tiny Moroccan cactus can be. Needles? The danger lies not on the outside, but on the inside. If even a drop of cactus juice falls on a person’s tongue, the last and only thought in his head will be “rather, give water”.
And all because, cactus juice contains resiniferatoxin. That's what causes that crazy burning feeling in your mouth. It is, it should be noted, cooler than any pepper on earth. Don't you? For comparison, the standard pepper spray contains about 1.5 million units on the Scoville burning scale, the most burning pepper on the earth is the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion – 2 million units. And here's resiniferatoxin. 16 billion. In other words, this tiny cactus is as dangerous as 10,000 canisters of pepper spray.
5. prayer-abrus
Most likely, you have never heard of the abrus of prayer in your life. This plant with small bright red berries is often used in jewelry or instrumentation. However, it is these cute berries that are fraught with danger. The berries contain a toxin hundreds of times more powerful than ricin. If you eat a single berry, you could sign a death sentence. But things are much better: swallowed whole berries are not dangerous, because they are enclosed in a very hard skin, which our body is not able to digest.
4.cerberasuicide tree
Cerberus is called the suicide tree. It is easy to guess that the tree was to the liking of people who decided to commit suicide. The unique property of cerbera fruits is that their aroma is easier to mask with ordinary spices. Preparing, for example, curry – an Indian tree, you can easily go to the other world. By the way, no one alive, for obvious reasons, does not know what this wonderful fruit tastes like. But the fact is that he was chosen not only by suicides, but also by insulted spouses.
3. ongaonga
In its striking effect, the ongaonga plant resembles something between nettle and stun gun, but the “charge” of the plant is several times more powerful. It is said that a man who touches him will lie paralyzed in a minute and dream of death. Ongaonga grows up to 3 meters in height and forms completely impassable thickets. Mother Nature seemed to have few sharks and tigers, so she created an ongaonga.
2. Darlingtonia California or Lilia Cobra
If you naively believe that humans are the last link in the food chain, you are wrong. Let me remind you that the dominant in the chain is a creature that can feed itself, as well as reproduce its kind with a minimum of effort. That is why man invented fast food and Viagra. As much as we would like to think that Homo sapiens is the best hunter on earth, unfortunately it is not.
The best hunter is Darlingtonia. In addition, to satisfy hunger, you need to do everything yourself: cook, chew, etc. While to Darlingtonia, food flies by itself, of its own accord. It is often called a lily cobra. Comparison with the cobra she deserved because of the petal trap, in shape and color resembling the hood of a snake. Agree, the compliment is more than flattering, given that the bite of a cobra is considered more dangerous than a bullet.
1. Gura Crepitans or the Sand Tree
And the first place is rightfully occupied by a tropical plant with the Latin name “gura crepitans” or a sandbox tree. Although it would be more appropriate to call it a tree – a pomegranate. Its fruits are torn so violently that the seeds fire at a speed of 160 kilometers per hour – much more than the speed limit in the city. Yeah, yeah. The seeds of this tree are found hundreds of meters from the tree itself.
