Incredibly beautiful river - Socha
Socha in Slovenia or Isonzo in Italy is an incredibly beautiful river that originates deep in a valley surrounded by picturesque Slovenian Alps. Bright turquoise tape, it winds through the untouched nature of powerful mountain ranges. The length of the river is 138 kilometers, of which 96 kilometers flows through western Slovenia and 42 kilometers through northeastern Italy. Its average width is 20 meters, and the depth ranges from one to one and a half meters. Socha is one of the few rivers that have the unique property of maintaining an extraordinary color along its entire length.
The source of the Alpine River lies in the most beautiful European valley, Trent, near the top of Triglav at an altitude of 990 meters. It makes its way through the Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia and descends down along mountain meadows, steep gorges and high mountains, connecting with the Adriatic Sea near the Italian city of Monfalcone. On its way lie the Slovenian cities of Bovec, Tolmin, Kobarid, Nova Gorica, and on the territory of Italy - the city of Gorizia.
Due to its unusual color, in Slovenia, Socha received another name - "Emerald Beauty".
At the very source, the river framed by high banks looks like a mountain stream, and then expands along the stream, reaching 12-20 meters. The crystal clear waters that fill it drain from the limestone mountains belonging to the northwestern part of the Alps.
Multiple rapids, ledges and steep slopes of the stormy river make it especially popular among tourists who prefer extreme rest. Socha and the coastal area offer conditions for a wide variety of sources of adrenaline: kayaking, rafting, canyoning, climbing, hiking, mountain biking, paragliding and many other entertainment.
“Emerald beauty” is also famous for its unique inhabitants – in the upper reaches of the river there is Marble trout, which belongs to endemic species. Fans of fishing can catch in the local waters carp, Sochi gray, river and rainbow trout.
The Socha River is known not only for its natural beauty, but also for the stone railway bridge Solkan built over it, connecting the shores of two states - Slovenia and Italy. With a length of 220 meters, it is considered a record holder among the stone buildings designed for railway transport. In 1985, the arched bridge Solkan was recognized as a national treasure of Slovenia and taken under the protection of a public organization.
Every year, tourists from all over Europe come to the banks of the wonderful river to feel the harmony of local nature, not yet touched by technological progress.
The picture view of the Slovenian natural corner and the slightly fabulous color of the Socha River simply could not help but attract the attention of eminent filmmakers. In 2008, Disney filmed some scenes of the famous American film The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.
Undoubtedly, the local landscapes, represented by pointed mountain peaks, entwined with a river of turquoise color, should not remain without the attention of artists and deserve an honorable place in a variety of works of art.
