Floating City—a green alternative to mainland cities

These futuristic picture can easily pass for stills from Hollywood fiction, but to wait for a future don't have: in 2015, the company "China Transport Investment Company" to start the preparation and implementation of this project. Floating city under the working title "Floating City" reminiscent of the shape a honeycomb, becomes a green alternative to the crowded mainland cities.

The creation of such cities with an area of 10 square kilometers – a truly great solution to combat the impacts of urbanization on land because they are not only able to accommodate a huge number of people, but also to provide jobs for a significant part of the population. Implied that the artificial island will be environmentally friendly, with zero emissions of carbon and low power consumption. They will also be self-sufficient through food production and energy, and will include "green" waste management system.

According to the idea, Autonomous network of coastal cities will be located in the prefabricated hexagonal modules that the style of the island. Movement throughout the city is expected to be provided by electric cars or other modes of transport without polluting the air. The project also includes pedestrian and Bicycle paths on all layers of "Floating City". Transport connection will be provided by underwater tunnels between Islands and the mainland. In addition, local residents can use the ferry. And to encourage tourism in the plan included Parking for the cruise submarines and yachts.

"Floating City" is much like an iceberg: 80% of its volume will be hiding under the water. There will be residential tiers, restaurants, shops, entertainment facilities and luxury hotels. In other words, there will be all that you can find in a typical metropolis. With one difference: instead of stunning scenery, views from the penthouse, the inhabitants and guests of the "Floating City" will have great Windows, which laps the vast blue of the ocean.

In the above-water part of the structure will house the farm's organic produce and nurseries for breeding fish. In addition, the architects have provided an abundant number of green spaces – from the top of the "Floating City" to the very bottom. And not accidentally: according to the location and vegetation will have different functions. Overhead "green belt" is designed to provide residents a cozy space to relax, while under water the herbs will provide fresh air and additional space for relaxation.

The concept of a floating city was elaborated by the architectural firm "AT Design Office" based in London. At the moment, supporters of the project "Floating City" are in talks with a group of Chinese investors. "Particular interest was expressed by China Transport Investment Company, which carefully considers the proposal and, most likely, will take up this ambitious project next year", — said the chief architect of Slawomir Siska (Siska Slavomir) in a press release.

Although it is unlikely that the "Floating City" in the flesh will be an exact copy of the graphic visualizations, many of the methods of construction required to bring the project to life, already exist. Backers of the project expect to build a city from a series of modular blocks (500 x 100 feet) by introduction of new methods of construction company "CCCC", which is currently used for the construction of a 31-kilometer bridge linking Hong Kong, Macau and Zhuhai.
